This report explains the objectives and motivations of building the local evaluation platform. This platform is described in terms of hardware and software components, with a presentation of the machines, the networks that interconnect them (an ATM and an Ethernet LANs) and the software tools that run on it and which behaviour and performances have to be evaluated in the framework of automotive tele-design. The CSCW tools installed (TCA, MMC GroupX and GroupWin, Communique, TeamConference) as well as the Euclid CAD tool are detailed. Then, the report presents the assessment methodology (significant evaluation parameters and evaluation tools) that is applied to the CANET local platform. The results concerning videoconferencing components, application sharing tools and CAD application are described. The methodology essentially aims at evaluating the QoS parameters as video rate, audio quality, etc., but also the required CPU and network bandwidth for videoconferencing and CAD applications sharing.
